Biography

Son of James Browne of Acton and Anne Browne formerly Nisbet, later Hutton. A younger son, his will indicates that he came to slave-ownership after the death of a brother, probably Jeremiah Nisbett Browne whose will was proved 14/11/1798. No will has yet been found for their older brother, another James Browne, given as 'James Browne of Weymouth' in the will of their father.

  1. Will of Innes James otherwise James Innes Browne of Bristol proved 13/02/1804. In the will he left the interest in Browne's estate on Nevis that he held by virtue of the wills of his father and brother to his mother, Anne Hutton.
