Biography

Shown as owner of Swamps estate in St Davids Jamaica 1783-1790, which she had brought to her marriage with Benjamin Cowell (shown as the owner 1769-1782): in his will, he will left her for life 'several negros' in Jamaica. Daughter of Andrew Arcedeckne of Jamaica and sister of Chaloner Arcedeckne (both of whom q.v.).

  1. Will of Ann Cowell widow of Wigmore Street proved 19/09/1823. She opened the will by saying that she was entitled to £2200 issuing from or charged on the Swamps estate in Jamaica which had belonged to her father 'and afterwards to me'. She left the £2200 in trust to her grandchildren John Stepney Cowell and William Stepney Cowell for the benefit of the former and then his son, and a further £1680 in trust to them for William Stepney Cowell and his son.
