Andrew Arcedeckne of Jamaica

Biography

Lawyer, trained at Grays Inn. Renounced his Catholicism. Established Golden Grove in St Thomas-in-the-East in 1734. Attorney General of Jamaica in 1734. Father of Chaloner Archedeckne (q.v.).

Andrew Archedeckne was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 203 acres of land in St Catherine, 2664 acres in St David, 2977 acres in St Thomas-in-the-East, 2778 acres in St Mary, 3718 acres in St James and 371 acres in Westmoreland, total 12711 acres.

Andrew Arcedeckne of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1765. Slave-ownership at probate: 622 of whom 296 were listed as male and 326 as female. 154 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £42659.43 Jamaican currency of which £30713.5 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £1200 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £207.84 currency plate.
