William Maxwell of Carriden, brother of Patrick Maxwell of Grenada (q.v.) and father of William Maxwell MP (q.v.).

Will of William Maxwell of Carriden, West Lothian, proved 03/07/1771. Under the will, William Maxwell left his estates in 'England , Scotland and Island of Antigua or elsewhere' to his infant son William. Patrick Maxwell was identifed as William Maxwell of Carriden's 'brother German' in this will. His wife Grizell Maxwell nee Stewart was appointed as one of the 'tutors and curators' of William Maxwell the son.
