William Lucas of Grenada

???? - 1787

Biography

Appointed Chief Justice of Grenada in 1783, and probably the same man as the William Lucas who was an early purchaser of land in Tobago. On Grenada, his estate at Mount George was bought out in 1784 to build fortifications.

  1. William Lucas purchased 15/05/1771 Courland Bay division (St David parish) Lot no. 30 (200 acres); by 1773 the owner was shown as '___ Campbell': the Lot, together with no. 29, became Mount Dillon. In 1773, William Lucas was shown, however, as the owner of Lot no. 28 (100 acres), bought originally by William Hewitt 05/06/1770, which became Castara Down. William Lucas was also the original purchaser 19/04/1768 of Barbados Bay division (St George parish) Lot no. 32 (300 acres), which became Hilsbro Vale.

  2. Oct. 15 [1787] At Grenada, [death of] the Hon. William Lucas, President of His Majesty's Council, and Commander in Chief in and over the island of Grenada etc. etc.

  • SD - Association Start Date
  • SY - Association Start Year
  • EA - Earliest Known Association
  • ED - Association End Date
  • EY - Association End Year
