Biography

London merchant, partner with George Henry Hooper (q.v.): Denoon does not appear as a claimant with Hooper on the latter's claim as assignee on Mary's Hope in British Guiana, but the firm acted as agent for other slave-owners and Denoon was one of the trustees for the reputed children of the deceased Berbice planter James Kirkwood in the 1840s.

At Montpelier Place, Lewisham, in 1841, age 35, with Isabble Denoon, age 40 (both born Scotland), one male and one female servants. At 9 St Germans Place, Kidbrooke, Kent, in 1851, "West India Merchant", with his brother David (also a West India Merchant), sister Ann, nephew John Jameson and one female servant. A visitor at the house of his sister Isabella at Catherine Terrace, Gateshead, in 1861, "East India Merchant, London". At 9 St Germans Place in 1871, with wife Anne M. (age 50 born British Guiana).

The will of Alexander Denoon formerly of 6 Great Winchester Street but late of 34 Old Broad Street, both in the City of London, and of Downswood, Beckenham, Kent, merchant, who died 24/01/1877 at Downswood was proved at the Principal Registry by Anne Margaret Denoon of Downswood, widow, the relict, the sole executrix. Effects under £16,000 in England.
