Biography

George Augustus Forbes Bush counterclaimed for compensation on St Mary's Hope, British Guiana, for himself and as attorney of Robert Lucas and others, residuary legatees and heirs of Joseph Bush, late of London (deceased), for a mortgage of £16000. He withdrew his claim, "having made arrangements for the satisfactory liquidation of the counterclaim" in 1836.

  1. Robert Lucas was probably G.A.F. Bush's brother-in-law: a Robert Lucas had married Martha Lucas [sic] Bush 21/07/1830 at Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire.

  2. Robert Lucas and his wife Martha had 2 daughters: Martha Bush Lucas, born 03/05/1831 and baptised 20/01/1832 at St Augustine-the-less, Bristol and Anna Lucas, born 12/12/1832 and baptised 12/12/1833 also at St Augustine-the-less. Not found in the censuses 1841-1861 but Robert had died by 1871 when Martha L. Lucas (age 66, widow, "Dividends, Interest &c, born in Martinique, West Indies) and Martha B. Lucas (age 39, born Clifton, Bristol) were living with Anna (age 38, born Clifton, Bristol) in the household of Anna's husband Richard Nicholls, age 60, a surgeon, in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. This census also reveals a stepdaughter of Richard Nicholls, Rosa A.K. Watson age 15 born in Bonn, Germany - presumably the child of Anna's first marriage.
