Henry Esdaile

1801 - 1854

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Appears as a counterclaimant with Edward Jeffries Esdaile as 'undermortgagees' for £150,000 for the Carrickfolye estate in Trelawney (for which the compensation was paid into the colonial court) and the Belvidere estate in Hanover (in the latter case, the compensation was paid into a Chancery suit of Esdaile v Hibbert). The connection between the two claims appears to have been the indebtedness of the Reid family, possibly former owners.

It seems highly likely that the claim originates with lending by Sir James Esdaile & Co., the London bankers to Geo. Reid & Co.. Edward Jeffries Esdaile was the son of William Esdaile and grandson of Sir James Esdaile.

  1. In 1841 Henry Esdiale [sic] Ind. aged 40 was living at Mount Street London with E.Jefferson [sic] Esdiale, Eliza Esdaile and Emily Esdaile aged 30. The death of a Henry Esdaile, presumably this man, was registered Q1 1854 at Marylebone London. Nothing further of him has been traced. He was probably the brother but conceivably the son of Edward Jeffries Esdaile.
