Adam Lindsay Gordon

Biography

Son of Harriet Elizabeth Gordon (q.v.) and Adam Durnford Gordon. Inherited £7,000 from his mother in 1858. Emigrated to Australia in 1853. Born at Fayal, Azores, Portugal. He was a poet and horseman who served in the South Australian parliament, representing the electoral district of Victoria between 1865-1866. He remained in Australia until his death, despite inheriting the Gordon family estate in Esslemont, Scotland.
