Biography

Lessee of Haining estate from Mary Eliza Cargill (q.v.) and probably her son. Unsuccessful claimant as owner-in-fee on Skibo estate (St George no. 50) and Haining, for both of which he agreed to cede the compensation to John Atkins of London (q.v.). Possiby also the same man as the awardee of St Mary no. 86.  

  1. Will of John Cargill of Haining Estate parish of St Thomas in the East, Island of Jamaica proved 06/11/1838. He left Haining with the apprentices attached to it to his eldest son Jasper Farmer Cargill and Skibo to his youngest son Henry Cargill. He left his brother Rev. Robert Cargill of Nottingham Place London £200 and his sister Mrs Jessy Stewart of Edinburgh £100.
