Biography

Bristol merchant and partner with Walter Cruifurd Bernard (q.v.), awarded as partners the compensation as mortgagees-in-possession of the Sunderland estate in St James and for a group of enslaved people in St Elizabeth Jamaica. Probably son of Charles Edward Bernard MD (q.v.) and Barbara Fogo.

  1. In 1851 Charles E Barnard [sic] widower West India merchant aged 45 was living alone in Clifton (in either Carlton Place or The Mall).

  2. Will of Charles Edward Bernard of Bristol proved 18/03/1854. Under the will he left his estate in trust to his brother Ralph Mountague Bernard and his brother-in-law William Arundell Yeo, largely for the benefit of their families.
