Sir Anthony Hart

The executors of Sir Anthony Hart (Charles Henry Barber and John Nixon) were awarded part of the compensation for the Stone Castle estate on St Kitts, on which according to his will Hart held a mortgage.

1. Sir Anthony Hart was Vice Chancellor of England and then Lord Chancellor of Ireland. 'Neither a great lawyer nor in any respect a great man'. Will of Rt Hon Sir Anthony Hart of Cumberland St Portman Square  ['although his residence at the time was in Upper Harley Street'], proved 24/12/1831. Under the will he left £20,000 in trust for 'Miss Hart' for life, with restrictions on her ability to will the principal away. It identified his sisters as the late Mrs Lapsley and Mrs Rawlins. He gave the estates of Hart's and Duports in the parish of Trinity Palmetto Point in trust for Miss Hart for life and then to her children, in default of whom to the children of his nephew John Hart Rawlins. He carved out from his estate the monies due on mortgage on the security of the Stone Castle, Johnsons and Ffelts [?] estates, belonging to his sister Mrs Rawlins and nephew John Hart Rawlins, totalling over £30,000 in total, 'Sir Anthony intending to make a separate disposition thereof.'
