Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Counterclaimed apparently unsuccessfully on the Good Hope and Endragt & Mon Repos estates in British Guiana.

  1. Son of Joseph Hamer of Demerara (1745-1803) and brother of William Attwick Hamer (q.v.) and Henry Percy Hamer (c. 1787-before 1836); Vere Langford Oliver shows him in the family tree of 'Dyer of Montserrat' slightly ambiguously as the son of Joseph Hamer and Mary (maiden name unknown) who married Mark Dyer (whether first or secondly is unclear).

  2. Born about 1788. Death registered aged 79 in Lambeth Q2 1867. His son Joseph Greatheed Hamer (born c. 1823) married Mary Ann Pugh 22/02/1871 at St Thomas Lambeth.

  3. Born about 1788 Southampton. 1861 census reportedly shows him at 4 Richmond Terrace Lambeth (online searches have yet to confirm this).

  4. Gosport, Hants links suggested by both Joseph Hamer's marriage reportedly in Gosport and the Attwick family of Gosport.

  5. Michael Greatheed Hamer's illegitimate half-sisters Catherine, Louisa, Eliza and Marianne (the daughters of Joseph Hamer and Marianne, a free Mestiza) were reportedly living at 52 Cadogan Place in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses.
