Biography

Liverpool cottonbroker, partner with his brothers Rogers and Daniel (and Thomas Bouch) in Nicholas Waterhouse & Sons, together with whom he claimed under several liens on estates owned by the Rogers family in British Guiana. He married Mary, the daughter of the Quaker coal merchant Paul Bevan and Rebecca Capper.  Alfred and Mary Waterhouse's children included Alfred (1841-1917), the architect of the Natural History Museum and Manchester Town Hall, and Edwin (1841-1917), the founder of the wellknown accountants (both in the ODNB).

  1. Will of Alfred Waterhouse late of Whiteknights Park near Reading who died 27/12/1873 proved 09/01/1874, effects under £60,000 resworn December 1874 under £70,000.
