Claimant or beneficiary

William Foreman Home of Wedderburn, Billie and Paxton. Son of John Foreman and Margaret Tod, the daughter of Jean Home and John Tod, and brother of John Foreman Home (q.v.). The brothers added the surname Home after the death of their second cousin George Home of Paxton.

  1. John Fairbairn, the manager of the Waltham estate for George Home of Paxton, made his will 7 Sep 1820, registered 18/06/1821 Grenada, 11 Aug 1821 London. George Home (d. 1820) had inherited Paxton House from his elder brother Ninian (killed by Fedon in 1795); he inherited Wedderburn from Patrick Home in 1812 (Patrick had sold the unfinished Paxton House to Ninian Home for £15,000 in 1773).

  2. William Foreman, an attorney in Berwick, married Jane Home, youngest daughter of the Rev. George Home, minister of Ayton, at Ayton Manse, 13/12/1810. They had four daughters,.

T71/880 Grenada claim no. 566 (Waltham Estate).

  1. The reference in Kenneth E. Ingram, Manuscript sources for the history of the West Indies: with special reference to Jamaica in the National Library of Jamaica and supplementary sources in the West Indies, North America, and United Kingdom and elsewhere (Mona, Jamaica, University of the West Indies Press, 2000) p. 421, suggesting William Foreman Home was in Grenada 1820-1835 may be misleading: his brother John was certainly there at the time of compensation. For information on Paxton House see http://paxtonhouse.co.uk/history-collections/ [accessed 24/07/2015].
