Associated People (2)

The dates listed below have different categories as denoted by the letters in the brackets following each date. Here is a key to explain those letter codes:

  • SD - Association Start Date
  • SY - Association Start Year
  • EA - Earliest Known Association
  • ED - Association End Date
  • EY - Association End Year
  • LA - Latest Known Association
1817 [EA] - 1832 [LA] → Owner
1820 [EA] - 1834 [LA] → Mortgage Holder

It seems likely that Higginson's exceutor, Richard Deane, was able to claim the compensation on the basis of Higginson's holding of the mortgage on the estate.

Notes

Note that the evolution of this estate is not clear. It seems likely that the returns relate to Cane Garden but the 1820 record does not correspond exactly in numbers to the 1823 'previous' figure of 101. Cane, or Cain, Garden is only given as the name of the estate in 1817 and then again in the compensation claim. However, the Hughes-Queree index suggests that Ford was the owner but in the 1820s became indebted to John Higginson, whose executor claimed the compensation.
