Ralph Hotchkin left an estate named as Hotchkins Upper and Lower Ground in trust in a will made in 1809 with a codicil of 1815, proved in 1818. His daughter Catherine Barnes, the widow of Thomas Barnes, in 1856 described the estate as Halfway Tree or Hotchkins Upper and Lower Ground. The Rev. John Hotchkin, almost certainly the grandfather of Ralph Hotchkin, had entailed the estate under the name Upper and Lower Ground in his will proved in 1745.

Notes

In the will of Ralph Hotchkin proved in 1818 he left his estate of Hotchkins Upper and Lower Ground in trust to secure an annuity of £200 p.a. to his wife with the estate going to his children. In the will of Catherine Barnes nee Hotchkin proved in 1856 she bequeathed her one-third share in Halfway Tree or Hotchkins' Upper and Lower Grounds.
