This estate and the enslaved people upon it were owned by Abraham Phillips from at least 1810 to 1817. On the death of Philips the estate and enslaved people passed to Judah Phillips Levy. By 1826, Peter Breakenridge had bought the land but not apparently the enslaved people. Those settled on Phillip's Valley in 1823 probably moved to one of Judah Phillips Levy's other estates - Montpelier, Carlsruhe, Pond Piece or Trafalgar, all in Port Royal. Entries in the slave registers for 1817, 1820 and 1823 are assumed to be for Montpelier, Pond Piece, Carlsruhe and Phillips Valley. See JA10905 where these entries are listed under Montpelier estate and where the almanacs give the names of all the estates collectively. |

Jamaican-born widow of a prominent slave-owner; resident in Britain following the death of her husband in 1818. Accused - and acquitted - of the cruel treatment of some enslaved people whom she brought to Britain with her.
Document comprises 4 parts, written recto and verso across 5 folios: 1. An inventory and valuation of enslaved persons at Windsor Estate, St Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 2. An inventory and valuation of enslaved persons at Williamsfield settlement, St Elisabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 3. An inventory of animals at Windsor Estate, St Elizabeth parish, Jamaica, 1814. 4. A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
