Part of the collection of Italian, Spanish, French, Flemish, and Dutch pictures owned by John Proctor Anderson and sold on 15 May 1847 by Christie & Manson.

Provenance

According to the Burghley Collections website, provenance is as follows: The painting was commissioned by Cardinal Colonna in 1636 and recorded in the artist’s account book for August 10th, 1637. It remained in the Palazzo Colonna until the end of the 18th century, went to Farley Hall in the 1790’s and was sold to Lord Exeter (for £400) in 1847.
