UCL Laws Semester in London
Accommodation
UCL has a Student Accommodation Department dedicated to providing students with advice and guidance on accommodation owned by UCL and alternative accommodation in the vicinity of the university.
In order to be considered for student accommodation, students should log on to the website and apply online with their userID and password. These will be issued once the Faculty of Laws has received their acceptance of study letter. A specific residence cannot be requested but other preferences can be specified, such as the names of people with whom students would like to share.
Applicants will be contacted by the UCL Student Residences Office during the summer (it may be as late as end August, but is likely to be before). If allocated a place, it is necessary to act quickly to secure it by sending a deposit.
Although UCL cannot give an absolute guarantee, the Student Residences Office expects to be able to offer College accommodation to students on this programme.
Please consider the following when applying for UCL student accommodation:
If you have already spent parts of your degree at UCL and stayed in UCL student accommodation, you may not be considered a place in first instance, but be added to a waiting list. Please keep this in mind when applying for accommodation.
UCL will make every effort to provide you with your preferred housing requests. However, due to the nature of the SIL programme it is likely that you will share accommodation with younger students, who have just started their undergraduate degree. It is not always possible to allocate SIL students to the same dormitories and you may be spread around campus.
UCL married accommodation is difficult to obtain. First priority is given where both applicants will be full-year UCL students, then to couples where one will be a full-year UCL student, and so on.
Remember - your housing allocation (along with details of how to pay the deposit) will be sent in September. Be sure to give an address where you will be living at that time OR make sure that your summer mail is being forwarded quickly.
Moving in early
It is sometimes possible to move into accommodation before the specified date (usually the Saturday before term starts) but you must arrange this with the Residence Manager.
Other accommodation
If students do not wish to live within UCL housing, the website offers options for
alternative accommodation that can be contacted.
There are also many websites offering flat or house sharing for students who do not wish to live within university housing. Often rooms in the UK are furnished and the monthly rent depends on its size and location. You usually have to pay more in the centre and for good public transport links.
