UCL Laws Research Degree Programmes

Academic Opportunities

Where possible the Faculty offers research students the opportunity to become teaching fellows and provide tutorial teaching on the LLB and LLM. We offer training in teaching skills for those who are considering an academic career. (link to law teachers programme)

The Faculty offers PhD students the opportunity to assist LLM students with their dissertations, where each mentor is assigned a defined list of LLM students. Mentoring involves encouraging and advising LLM students on the form and style of dissertations through face to face meetings, online contact and through feedback on draft work.

Supervisors make efforts to assist their students in arranging publication of their articles and theses.

The Faculty recognises that attendance at conferences is crucial for students to engage with other scholars in their fields of research. We therefore encourage students to participate in national and international conferences and to present their work in front of various audiences both within and outside of UCL. Students are also encouraged to organise their own conferences, workshops and reading groups where they feel it is appropriate. Central and Faculty funding may be available to assist with conference organisation and attendance.
