Professor
Basil Markesinis, QC, LL.D. (Cantab.), DCL (Oxon.), FBA, was elected a
Corresponding Member of the Institut de France (French Academy). Only a
handful of British legal scholars have received this high honour in the
almost two-hundred years of the Institut, among them John Austin (UCL),
Sir Frederick Pollock (UCL and Oxford), Sir James Fitzames Stephen, and
Sir William Anson (Oxford).
Professor Markesinis also gave an invited lecture at the Grand Chambre of the
Cour de cassation at the invitation of the French Supreme Court to mark the bicentenary
of the French Civil Code.
