A WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENTS FROM THE DEAN
A warm welcome to the Faculty of Laws at UCL. You are now part of a world-leading law faculty in one of the great universities of the world. Your admission to UCL Laws is a wonderful achievement andI invite you to make the most of all the opportunities that will be offered to you as a UCL student.
In UCL Laws you have the benefit of studying with gifted teachers and researchers. The Faculty are united not only by the highest standards of scholarship but also by a commitment to the well-being of our students and by a long tradition of engaging with the wide range of opportunities in other parts of UCL and elsewhere. This has been the case since the Faculty was founded nearly two hundred years ago.
You have chosen to study in one of the world’s great capital cities. London sets the pace in so many areas, including the innovative development of one of the most important legal systems in the world, financial services and the arts. A great pleasure of studying at UCL is its proximity to the treasures of London. Make time to explore and enjoy this magnificent city.
Although you will be expected to work hard, it is important that you get to know your fellow students well. Your time with us will pass very quickly, but the friendships which you make while you are here will last a life time. As you go on to make a real difference to the communities in which you choose to work and live, it is an exciting prospect to think that you will take with you a network of friends and other UCL contacts that will enrich the rest of your life.
On behalf of the Faculty, I wish you all the very best during your time at UCL Laws, and look forward to getting to know you in the months ahead.
Professor Dame Hazel Genn
