Martin Petrin holds an S.J.D. specialising in corporate law from the University of California, Los Angeles, a doctoral degree in comparative tort law from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and an LL.M. from Columbia University. Martin has practised law with a leading international business law firm and is admitted to the Bar in New York and Switzerland. He has also been a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private Law in Hamburg, Germany.

Martin's research interests are in corporate, business, and tort law, often from a comparative perspective. Most recently, his research has focused on corporate theory and new approaches to conceptualising the firm. Martin's research has also examined corporate liability, explored managerial responsibility towards non-shareholder third parties, and analysed the policy and theoretical considerations that govern oversight liability jurisprudence. Moreover, other articles, chapters, and books include a treatment of the scope of employment in agency law, and in-depth commentary on the law of limited liability companies, and his doctoral thesis on vicarious liability in selected civil and common law jurisdictions.
