CAN YOU USE CBM WITHIN MOODLE?
Moodle 1.9, 2.0, 2.2+ can be made to implement CBM. See www.tmedwin.net/cbm/moodle for demo sites and code.
Moodle versions 2.1+ already have a basic interface for CBM in core code - but it is strongly recommended that you install the additional code if you are going
to use CBM seriously. Alternatively, you can use links to LAPT from within Moodle to use existing or newly developed CBM self-tests (see below).
It is easy to install the modified code (and uninstall it) if you use Moodle 1.9, 2.0, 2.2+. Instructions and
access to the code are at the site above.
Most question types in Moodle can be exported from Moodle into the format for use with CBM in LAPT.
Questions can also be imported into Moodle from LAPT/CBM format into Moodle. Use the plugin folder
for Moodle 1.9 that can be downloaded and unzipped (with readme.txt instructions) from
www.ucl.ac.uk/lapt/moodle/cbm.zip.
NB Moodle does not support the common format in LAPT in which several Qs are grouped with a single stem (multiple T/F and EMQ formats).
LINKING TO LAPT EXERCISES FROM WITHIN MOODLE
Information and access to the main UCL website about CBM is at
www.ucl.ac.uk/lapt,
with the LAPT delivery platform specifically designed for self-tests using CBM.
Use the simplest LAPT link for whatever exercise, e.g.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lapt/?bmat1 (with, after ?, the short index
name for the exercise - shown in [..] brackets at the top of the window when
you run the exercise.
Set some options below the URL (you may need to click to show ADVANCED
OPTIONS) :
(1) Run in the SAME WINDOW ,
(2) Select SHOW NAVIGATION: YES, WITHOUT FRAME
(3) Set 2 parameters: u to be User-Username and i to be Course-Shortname
(4) Leave the 'SUMMARY' box empty because if you put something here it
shows throughout the use of LAPT and takes up an inordinate amount of
the window space. I can't see an option to switch this off.
MoodleMoot UK (14th April 2010) Slides for the presentation about
self-tests and CBM are available here (ppt slides)
and in the list of publications
at www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucgbarg/pubteach.htm
. You can also watch my talk.
