De & het - the definite article in Dutch
Dutch has two words for ‘the’ (the so-called definite article), namely de and het .
De is used with common gender nouns (i.e. masculine and feminine nouns) and all plurals.
Het is used with neuter gender nouns.
In the vocabulary lists in this course, only het -words are explicitly marked as such. If you come across a noun without a definite article following it, it is a de -word.
