Part-time English Courses: October 2009 - June 2010
The Language Centre offers a variety of part-time English language courses to participants whose main language is not English. Most courses are open to both UCL and non-UCL participants.
Part-time English courses focus on four main areas as set out in the overview below.
I IN-SESSIONAL EAP (for UCL students only)Taught over 18 weeks (Term 1: 8 weeks; Term 2: 10 weeks), the In-sessional EAP course is designed to improve a broad range of academic English skills for use within UCL departments. Skills studied and developed will include: reading, writing (supporting the academic essay), listening, speaking (for seminars and presentations), pronunciation, and appropriate grammar and vocabulary. After the course, participants may follow up with in-depth study of individual skills on other courses advertised here. |
II ACADEMIC WRITING, READING and ADVANCED GRAMMAROur writing courses focus on elements of the academic essay and PhD dissertation.
|
III ACADEMIC SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATIONThese courses focus on speaking, pronunciation and giving presentations in an academic environment, with the aim of increasing participants' oral confidence.
|
IV SPECIALISED COURSESThese courses focus on academic English skills for specific contexts. They are for non-native speakers of English only.
|
Most part-time English courses last between six and nine weeks and take place during one term. One-term courses are repeated each term. In the shorter summer term (Term 3), some courses are reduced in length and price.
