The Skills Development Process

Skills are developed through experience. The development process involves a 3-part cycle:

Learning cycle1
  • Planning involves prioritising which skills to develop and planning how to do this.
  • Doing involves practice. You will practice your skills in everyday life as a student. However, the moodle site and key skills grid provide further resources to help you practice.
  • Reviewing involves thinking about how good you were in practice and what you think you could improve. It is also important to record your progress, as this helps you to become more articulate about your skills and to accurately assess your development needs.
