Department of Security and Crime Science

The Department of Security and Crime Science is the teaching arm of the JDI. Through its undergraduate, master’s and professional programmes, the Department is dedicated to equipping current and future professionals working in the crime and security field with the knowledge and skills they will need meet the challenges of 21st century.

Our teaching programmes are based around the need to develop sophisticated analytical techniques and evidence based strategies to understand, detect and counter crime and security vulnerabilities. We are committed to bringing disciplines together and having real world impact.

We provide students with a thorough understanding of how science and scientifically based techniques can deliver sustainable and often immediate reductions in crime and other threats to security.

Open days and evenings

Our departmental open evenings are an excellent opportunity for prospective postgraduate students to meet some of the programme tutors and ask questions. We will be able to discuss in detail the content and logistics of our courses, as well as how the course fits into your future career plans. We also take part in the main UCL open days for prospective undergraduates.
