22 October 2012

A group of students have discussed setting up a seminar for graduate students with an interest in literature, culture, translation or gender studies, art, language, or any related subject, regardless of department.

This will be a low-obligation seminar, taking into account busy schedules.

The suggestion is to meet every other week, for 1 to 2 hours. Each time, one person will present his or her work – this can be a chapter, an essay, a research or conference proposal or more or less anything else even tangentially related to research. This is then followed by a group discussion.

The emphasis is on giving constructive feedback as well as getting to know other research students and what they are doing. Except for the person presenting, there will be no preparation necessary.

The group meets every second Wednesday at 6.15 pm. The schedule of speakers is as follows:

Term 1:
21st Nov: Mathelinda Nabugodi (SSEES)
5th Dec: Nichola Smalley (Scandinavian)
19th Dec: Nathaniel Barron (Centre for European Studies) & Kiron Ward (English)

Term 2:
9th Jan: Bethany Marston (Italian)
23rd Jan: Agnes Broome (Scandinavian)
6th Feb: Niall Screenan (Centre for Intercultural Studies)
20th Feb: TBA
6th Mar: Veronika Pehe (SSEES)
20th Mar: Christiane Luck (Centre for Intercultural Studies/German)
