A Review Meeting at UCL, 22-23 June 2006.
As governments around the world now recognize that medical error is a
major cause of mortality and morbidity, and clinical excellence is a
powerful driver of public support, it seems appropriate to review the
theoretical, scientific and practical aspects of medical thinking,
drawing on insights from the many fields where it has been studied.
The trigger for the meeting is the 20th anniversary of the publication
of Professor Steven Schwartz's review monograph 'Medical Thinking'. The
main goals of the meeting are to take stock of this highly
interdisciplinary field and to contribute to updating Professor
Schwartz's work.
The international line-up of invited speakers includes Vimla Patel,
Clare Harries, Phil Dawid, Jeremy Wyatt, Chris McManus, Alastair Gale,
Nigel Harvey, Enrico Coiera, Sue Osbourn, Nick Sevdalis, Sanjay Modgil,
David Glasspool, Paul Taylor, John Fox and Ted Shortliffe.
Organised by Cancer Research UK, University College London, OpenClinical
and the London Judgment and Decision Making Group.
