Postgraduate Taught Programmes

UCL offers a range of post-graduate taught courses relating to security and crime science. These are delivered through the various UCL departments contributing to the JDI. Key courses are listed below. Courses can also be accessed by going to individual departmental websites, including the Department of Security and Crime Science, the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Political Science, the Centre for Systems Engineering, and the School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
MSc in Crime Science
The MSc in Crime Science is a modular programme which covers the theoretical and philosophical bases of Crime Science.
MSc in Countering Organised Crime and Terrorism
This is aimed at security professionals whose role involves developing and implementing strategies to address the threat of extremism, against public, corporate and critical targets.
MSc in Information Security
Advanced programme for computer science and engineering graduates who wish to be involved with the security aspects of Information Technology.
MSc in International Public Policy
Provides a detailed and systematic understanding of how political institutions, processes and public policies operate in a global economy.
MSc in System Engineering Management
Provides an integrated, interdisciplinary view of complex systems and systems engineering.
MA in Politics, Security and Integration
Provides an opportunity to study political and social developments in post-communist Europe in both depth and breadth.
MRes in Security Studies
Combines empirical and normative approaches to the causes of political violence, the application of military force, humanitarian intervention, and the provision of global public goods.
Diploma in Countering Organised Crime and Terrorism
This is aimed at security professionals whose role involves developing
and implementing strategies to address the threat of extremism, against
public, corporate and critical targets.
Diploma in Crime Prevention & Community Safety
The Diploma in Crime Prevention and Community Safety is a modular
programme which will cover the application of scientific principles and
concepts to crime reduction, and the theoretical underpinnings of
situational crime prevention theory and techniques.
Diploma in the Prevention and Detection of Crime
The Diploma in the Prevention and Detection of Crime is a modular
programme which covers the application of scientific principles and
concepts to crime prevention and detection, and the theoretical
underpinnings of situational crime prevention theory and techniques.
Diploma in Crime Analysis
The Diploma in Crime Analysis is a modular programme specifically
designed to provide students with the skills necessary to produce and
interpret statistics concerned with crime analysis. It covers both the
theoretical and practical elements involved in problem solving and
hypothesis testing in Crime Science.
Certificate in Crime Detection
The Certificate in Crime Detection is a modular programme which will
cover the principles of scientific method and how these can help detect
offenders and reduce crime.
Certificate in Crime Analysis
The Certificate in Crime Analysis is a new modular programme
specifically designed to provide students with the skills required to
produce and interpret robust statistics for crime analysis. The major
theme of this programme is the acquisition of the necessary skills to
conduct research in practice. Students will therefore be trained in
research methods, and the use of software packages such as ArcGIS and
SPSS.
Distance Learning Certificate in Crime Analysis
The Distance Learning Certificate in Crime Analysis is a new programme
specifically designed to provide students with the skills required to
produce and interpret robust statistics for crime analysis. The major
theme of this programme is the acquisition of the necessary skills to
conduct research in practice. Students will therefore be trained in
