  • The Department has supported the initiative of some of its graduate students hosting a colloquium to reflect on critical architecture and design, looking at the works of architects, planners and designers and its social and cultural relevance in stimulating awareness with the public. 'Critical minds: critical spaces' will take place at UCL on 8th May 2010.  Speakers include Teresa Stoppani, Mark Cousins, Annelys de Vet, James Auger, Eyal Weizman, Jonathan Hill and Justin McGuirk.

  • New book! Our current writer-in-residence, Enrico Palandri, has just published a new novel called I Fratelli Minori, published by Bompiani, Milan. The department is fortunate to have a writer-in-residence – it is, in fact, the only Italian department in the UK to have such a position.

  • Robert Lumley is working on a study of the film makers Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi. He will be organising a retrospective of their work at a major museum in the near future. More information will be published shortly.

  • The Wellcome Institute has awarded Dilwyn Knox a grant for a pilot project on Copernicus's Library, beginning this October. The aim of the project is to catalogue the books that we know once belonged, or have been attributed at some point, to Nicolaus Copernicus. More later once the project is up and running.
