These
two programmes, taught in central London, take advantage
of the remarkable concentration of resources in the area
for the study of the Renaissance and of the expertise of
teachers at UCL and at other colleges and institutes of the
University of London. UCL has substantial collections
of primary and secondary sources, including the College Library
and Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine (formerly
the Wellcome Institute). In addition, the British Library,
University of London Library (in Senate House), the Warburg
Institute and the Institute of Historical Research are all
within five minutes walking distance of UCL.
The
programmes aim to familiarise students with Renaissance sources
of various kinds - literary, philosophical, visual and historical
- and to introduce them to the skills needed for studying them
at an advanced level.
Both
programmes are open to students of all nationalities. However,
the one-year programme has been designed for applicants from
the U.K. and Ireland in mind, whereas the two-year programme
has been designed mainly for applicants from North America and
Italy.
