As previously announced, the deadline for receiving your paper is 1 March 2004. Papers received after this date will not be included in the Conference Proceedings. Your paper should not exceed 6 pages in length and you are required to send:

    • An electronic copy on a PC floppy disk in RTF format
    • An electronic copy in RTF format by email to isko2004@ucl.ac.uk
    • Two camera-ready printed copies of the paper

In order ensure that the papers are relatively consistent in format your text should conform to the following instructions:

  1. Type and type size. Please use Times Roman or Times New Roman, 12 point type face (exceptions are noted below)

  2. Text area. The area occupied by the text of your paper should be 16 cm x 25 cm, except for the first page, which should be 16 cm x 24 cm (to allow for the addition of a running title at the bottom of the page)
  3. Basic format:
    1. In the upper left corner give the name(s) of the author(s); on the line below give the name of the institution and its location. Both should be in 12 pt. Bold face type.
    2. Leave 2 blank lines.
    3. Beginning at the left margin give the title of the paper in upper and lower case, 18 pt. bold face type.
    4. Leave 2 blank lines.
    5. Following this the abstract should be given in 11 pt. type face. The word Abstract: in bold should be given followed by the text of the abstract.
    6. Again leave two lines blank.
    7. Continue with the text, in 12 pt. type face, single-spaced throughout with no blank lines between paragraphs in the same section. Structure your text with headings in 12 pt. bold face type and number the headings with Arabic numbers. Leave 2 blank lines between all sections of the text as well as before the end-notes and reference sections at the end of the paper.

  4. Stressing of words. This can be done by using italics. Do not use bolding or underlining in the text.

  5. Figures. Every figure or table should be numbered and given a brief descriptive caption underneath, explaining its meaning. Use 11 pt. type for text in figures. Please make sure your figures are clear and sharp.

  6. Notes should be indicated using superscript numbers following the text of the note, e.g. "Knowledge Organization"2 and collected at the end of the paper (not at the bottom of each page).

  7. References and bibliographic data should be given parenthetically in the text, listing the author's last name and year of publication. For example: (Smith, 1977); add page numbers where appropriate, e.g. (Jones, 1999, 120-133).

Full bibliographic data should be given in a section labelled References and should be placed after the Notes section and the bibliographic form used should be one which you are comfortable with and consistently applied. If you need assistance on this, we recommend the "APA style" explained in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th ed. 1994. Some examples are given below.

The Hague: FID. Pp. 129-133.

  8. Numbering of pages. As stated above, your paper should not exceed 6 pages. Pages should be numbered, in pencil only, in the upper right corner.

  9. Address and Date of Submission. Please send your diskette and camera-ready copy of your paper not later than 1 March 2004 to the name and address given below. Indicate separately your mailing address, phone and fax numbers and your
e-mail address as you want this information to appear in the list of contributors in the proceedings (please, could you send us this information about all co-authors).
