Print Jobs
If you are concerned that your print job is taking too long and no print jobs at all seem to be coming out of the printer then please contact the IS Helpdesk as the print queue may be stuck.
However, if paper is coming out of the printer but it is being slow this could be because the print job is very large and it is taking a long time for the printer to process it. Very large files will take longer to print whether you are using the cluster room PCs at UCL or a standalone system.
What type of file is likely to be large in size and take a long time to print?
- PDF (Portable Document Format) files
- files that contain complex graphics.
How do I know if my print job is a PDF file?
- The file extension will be *.pdf
- Many files available for you to download from websites, e.g. JSTOR, are PDF files
- Acrobat Reader will be opened to display the PDF file
What should I do if my print job is taking ages to come out of the printer?
If you have released your print job (logged into a print release station and clicked release) then you should just wait for your print job to come out of the printer.
If you can see there is a long queue at the printer, you can go to any other cluster room and log in to a print release station there to print your job.
