Using the UCL Directory (LDAP)
The UCL directory contains entries for UCL staff and students who either have a phone number, an Information Systems email address or an email address from a department which has made its email addresses available.
There are two ways to search for an individual using the UCL directory.
Search via the Directory option
- Click on the Directory option at the top of the SquirrelMail screen. The search window will appear.
- Choose your criteria (whether you want to search by surname or mail address)
- Type the name of the person you want to find next to t he Contains box.
- Click on the Search button.

The results of your search will appear below your search criteria.
| Note: There is a Save button next to each entry in your results list. This button does not work and will not be added to your Personal Address Book. |
Search via the Compose option
- Click on the Compose option at the top of the SquirrelMail screen.
- Click on the Addresses button. You will see your Personal Address Book entries (if you have added any).
- In the Search for box, type in the name of the individual whose details you want to find.
- You can choose to search in All address books (this includes your Personal Address Book and LDAP - the UCL directory) or just either your Personal Address Book or LDAP.
- Click on the Search button.

If you chose to search All address books, the source column on the right hand side will tell you where each entry was found - either in your Personal Address Book or in LDAP.
