Filtering (spam etc) with SquirrelMail
Create a {SPAM?} filter
1. Click on Options in the menu bar, and Message filters.
2. In the Options - Message Filtering window, in the box next to What to Scan: select All messages.
3. Click on the New link.

4. Fill in the fields as follows:
Match: Subject
Contains: {SPAM?}
Move to: Trash
5. Click on the submit button to save your changes.

6. By way of confirmation, SquirrelMail then displays your rule:
Remember to PURGE the SPAM messages from your trash folder. Otherwise it will continue to sit in your account and use up your quota!
Create a filter to move messages to another folder
1. Click on Options in the menu bar, and Message filters.
2. In the Options - Message Filtering window, in the box next to What to Scan: select All messages.
3. Click on the New link.

4. Click on the down arrow in the box next to Match and select From.
5. In the Contains box, type in the email address that you want to apply the filter to.
6. Click on the down arrow in the box next to Move to and select the folder where you want the emails to go.
For example:
Match: From
Contains: jane.doe@ucl.ac.uk
Move to: Friends
7. Click on the submit button to save your changes.

8. Click on Options in the toolbar again.
9. Select Folder preferences from the list.
10. Under Folder list options, Click on the down arrow next to Enbable Unread Message Notification and select All folders.
11. Click on the down arrow next to Unread Message Notification Type and select Only Unseen.

12. Scroll down and click on the Submit button.
This will give you an alert that there are new unread messages in your folders by placing a number indicator next to the folders. In addition, if there are unread messages in the folder, the folder name will be displayed in bold. An example shown below:
