Creating a Personal Address book
You can create an address book by adding new entries. To add a new person click on Addresses. Fill in the details as shown below in the example below, and when complete click on the Add address button.
Note: Ensure that you do not leave any additional spaces after you have typed the Nickname, otherwise you will receive the following error: ERROR: Nickname contains illegal characters.
As you continue to add addresses, this will build up your personal address book. Entries will be displayed at the top of the Address Book screen. From here you can also delete and edit addresses:
Using your address book when composing messages
To add an address to the To: field when composing a new message, click on the Addresses button:
Click in the box next to the address(es) you wish to place in the To/Cc/Bcc fields and click on the Use Addresses button.
Searching for addresses
If you have a large address book, you may want to search for a particular person. SquirrelMail offers a search facility. You can choose to search your Personal Address book or the UCL directory or both. See: "Using the UCL directory" from the SquirrelMail guide menu.
There is an option in SquirrelMail to autocomplete addresses as you type (these addresses must be in your Personal Address Book. Addresses in the UCL directory will not autocomplete).

To turn on the Autocomplete option:
- Select Options > Display Preferences.
- Scroll down to Auto Message Save and Recovery.
- You will then see the Autocomplete box:
- Click on the down arrow and select Both nicknames and full names.
- Put a tick next to Use case-insensitive searches.
- Scroll down and click on the Submit button to save your changes.
