Configuring Pegasus to use secure email settings

For secure settings to work, you must be using version 4.11. Older versions do not support secure settings.

How can I find out if I am using POP or IMAP?


Please note: Pegasus is not supported by the ISD Service Desk. Full support can be given to Thunderbird and Outlook users only.

IMAP users

Receiving mail

  • Click on Tools > IMAP profiles.
  • Select your UCL IMAP profile and click on the Edit button.

  • Select the Security tab.
  • Select the option which reads: via direct SSL connect.

  • When you do this, a Secure connection port number warning box will appear:

  • Click on the Change button.
  • Now click on the Connection tab.
  • Make sure that the Server port number reads 993.

  • Click OK to close the box and save the changes.
  • Click Done to close the Manage IMAP profiles box.


You are now set up to read email securely.


POP users

Receiving mail

  • Click on Tools > Internet Options.
  • Click on the Receiving (POP3) tab.
  • Select your UCL account.
  • Click on the Edit button.

  • Click on the Security tab.
  • Select the option which reads: Via direct SSL connect.

  • When you do this, a Secure connection port number warning box will appear:

  • Click on the Change button.
  • Now select the General tab.
  • Next to Server TCP/IP port ensure that the number in the box reads 995.

  • Click OK to save the changes and close the box.

You are now set up to read email securely.
