FAQ - Alumni email

How do I get an Alumni address?

If you started at UCL after 1st September 2009 (or you started before September 2009 and signed up to the live@UCL email service) you will be able to continue to use your live@UCL email account.

The ISD service Desk will send you an email when your email address has been changed.

Your 'send from' and reply to' email address will be changed to instead of

All your old email, contacts, calendar entries, notes and tasks will still be in your account and messages sent to your old email address will continue to be delivered.

What do I need to do?

We will continue to reset passwords every 150 days. Please ensure you sign up for the User Authentication Service (UAS) via MyAccount.

This will allow you to reset your password – even if you forget it in the future or it expires.

You can register for UAS straight away. You do not need to wait until your email address changes!

How do I login?

Enter the following address in a browser:

Remember to enter after your userid!

Will my password expire? 

Yes, you will still be required to change your password every 150 days.

You are required to change you password using the MyAccount website and not from within OWA.

My password has expired/forgotten. How can I get a new one?

I am registered for the User Authentication Service

If you remembered to register for the User Authentication System, go to MyAccount, answer a security question regarding your memorable word/number and change your password. 

I did not register for the User Authentication Service

You will need to call the ISD Service Desk and answer some security questions.

If you answer those questions correctly, we will issue with a token that you can use to reset your password online.

Will my email account ever expire?

No, your account will not expire.

How much space will I receive?

You get up to 10GB of storage space.

The 10GB storage covers everything in your “mailbox” which is compromised of all your email folders including: Inbox, Sent, Calendar, Contacts and Deleted Items.

Will there be advertising?

There is currently no advertising on this service.

How do I use Outlook Web App (OWA)?

Please see our online user guide for full details on how to use OWA.

Will the ISD Service Desk help me if I have problems?

Yes, to a certain extent.

The Outlook Web App (OWA) is the supported service for the alumni email service.

If you are using different methods for connecting, the support is limited to online documentation. We cannot provide further help via the Service Desk.

Please note:

  • Microsoft also offer additional services such as Windows Live Skydrive, Instant Messaging, Office Live, Windows Live Calendar and Live Spaces. These services are not supported by the ISD Service Desk.

I've been using Windows & Office Live spaces. What will happen to my data?

You will continue to have access to these additional services provided by Microsoft and any data contained (such as Windows Live Skydrive, Instant Messaging, Office Live, Windows Live Calendar and Live Spaces).

However, the ISD Service Desk will not provide any support.
