What is a POP lock?

Sometimes when you check your e-mail you may get error message saying you have a POP lock. This can be caused by you having too many messages waiting for you on the server or if you check your e-mail twice very quickly. When you check your e-mail you are dialling into the pop server so you have to wait for your connection to be closed before you can try to make another connection to the pop server. This connection will take a longer time to disconnect if you have a lot of e-mail messages waiting for you on the server.

Pop locks will usually clear themselves if you wait for 15 or 20 minutes before you check your e-mail again.
