Mailing Lists
What is a mailing list?
A mailing list allows you to send the same email to a group of
people who have subscribed to that list. You therefore do not
need to keep a record of all the addresses of the people as you
simply send the message to the address for the mailing list itself.
What can they be used for?
Mailing lists are extremely useful for creating communities of
users. Lists can be public
(anyone can join) or private (only those invited can join);
they can be used purely to make announcements or as a discussion
list.
How do I set up a mailing list?
At UCL, there is a facility called Mailman which can be used to
create a mailing list. The Learning
Technology mailing list uses
Mailman. To get a mailing list on the UCL service contact postmaster@ucl.ac.uk giving
a name for your list.
Yahoo groups is a popular mailing list provider, however you will need to register for a Yahoo ID in order to set one up.
