Planning a new website at UCL:

How to start: a successful website requires careful thought, so please follow our guidelines when planning, designing, structuring, writing and developing your site.

Recommended technology: if you are part of a team, department, faculty or division and need a website, we recommend you make use of UCL's Content Management System - Silva - which is supported through training, email and 1-2-1 support, and allows individuals to have editing rights i.e. allows for the sharing of editing duties amongst staff.
Your URL would be http://www.ucl.ac.uk/thenameyougive

Alternatives:

  1. If you would like to use Dreamweaver, UCL provides training but no further support and we would not recommend this approach for externally-facing web pages meant for prospective students, alumni, research partners or any of UCL's other major stakeholders.
    Your URL would be http://www.ucl.ac.uk/thenameyougive
  2. If you are a member of staff (or student), and you would like to have a Personal website, you could build this in Dreamweaver (available on WTS) and once 'live', the URL would be http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~youruserID
