Can external participants take the ECDL at UCL?

No, unfortunately we don't take external participants.  You must be a UCL member of staff (or a student participating in the postgraduate scheme) to take the ECDL.

How much does the ECDL cost?

The cost of the ECDL to staff is £90 payable by cheque, eIDT or IDT.  See the ECDL Application page for more details.  The Graduate School funds a limited number of ECDL places for postgraduates each year.  Intake onto this scheme is at the start of the academic year and applications are invited in October by email to all postgraduates.

Do you accept IDTs (electronic and paper) and cheques?

We accept all these methods of payment. See the ECDL Application page for more details.

Where are the testing session dates published?

Please see the ECDL Candidates page (link above) for testing session dates.

Will I need ID to enter the testing session venue?

Yes, you will need your UCL ID card to enter the session and as proof of identity when taking tests.

How do I book onto an orientation?

If you are a member of staff, please visit the UCL Training Booking System and book a suitable date.  Please read the ECDL Application page for full details.

If you are a postgraduate student you will need to apply as part of the postgraduate scheme at the start of the academic year.  Details of how to apply will be included in the email sent to all postgraduates about the scheme.

I have tried booking onto the staff orientation and the system will not allow me to book what shall I do?

Please see our Course FAQ page for information about using the booking system.

What username and password should I use to book?

You should use your UCL userid and password.  This is the same password that staff use to get access to My View to view payslips or students use to access UCL email.

I signed up a long time ago, how do I get started again?

You can start again at any time.  Please see the ECDL Candidates page (link above) for details of study materials, testing sessions etc.  You can also find the latest version of the Orientation document which explains the way the ECDL works at UCL.  If you would like to go over this with someone please email us (link above) to arrange this.

How many tests have I done?

To find out how many tests you have passed, please email us (link above), allowing 3 working days for a response, or visit a drop in session or testing session (link above).

How long before I have to complete?

You have three years to pass all seven module tests from the date that you pass your first module test.  If you are unsure of the date, please email us (link above), allowing 3 working days for a response, or visit a drop in session or testing session (link above) or a testing session.

I am having problems viewing the learning materials what shall I do?

Many users find that switching to a different browser can be helpful.  We recommend that you use Internet Explorer but if this doesn't work you should try using Firefox instead.  If this doesn't work, please email us (link above), allowing 3 working days for a response, with details of what you are experiencing or visit a drop in session or testing session (link above) for help.

I have completed my ECDL.  When and where do I collect my certificate?

If you have passed all seven tests with 75% or above, your certificate will be automatically issued and sent to us.  We will then contact you and you can collect it from the ISD Service Desk.  Please don't go to collect it until you hear from us.  If you have not heard from us within two months of completing your ECDL please email us (link above).
