Support

Provided through the IT Training Drop In Service.  Check the web page in case of cancellations.  The drop in service is term time only unless otherwise advised.
Candidates new to a particular application (e.g. Excel) may wish to attend training courses (free to UCL staff).

We provide interactive online learning and downloadable paper-based materials.  Refer to the syllabus for each module for a checklist of what you need to know.

About tests

There are mock tests (Assessments) and real test (Exams) for each module.

Mock tests (Assessments)

These can be taken at the IT Training Drop In Service (UCL staff and students only) and in Testing Sessions

We use automated testing software and you are advised to do at least one mock test in the 'practical' modules (2 to 7) to familiarise yourself with it and ensure you have the skills to pass the test. Ideally take mock tests in all seven modules.

We recommended you take a mock about 1 - 2 weeks before the actual test. We usually only offer one mock test per module so you are advised to sit your mock test as part of your final preparation for your test.

You have up to 75 minutes per mock but they generally only take about 30 - 45 minutes. Allow an additional 15 minutes for first mocks.

Real tests (Exams)

These can be taken at Testing sessions and occasionally at the IT Training Drop In Service although we can't guarantee a quiet environment at the Drop In sessions.

You have up to 45 minutes to complete an exam but you must arrive at least an hour before the end of the testing session to complete one test.

Real tests are conducted under exam conditions and candidates are not allowed to have any notes or other help during the real tests.  If you fail a test, you cannot resit it on the same day.
