ECDL FAQs

The ECDL programme at UCL is open to all members of staff and postgraduate students only. The following information relates to the staff programme.  Please visit the student ECDL pages for details of the postgraduate programme.

How to apply

ECDL candidates must initially attend an orientation session (details below).  Once you have attended an orientation you will be registered for the ECDL.

Costs and what is included

The cost to staff is £90, payable by the candidate or their department.

This includes all seven module tests, a mock test for each module and registration with the British Computer Society. It also includes online learning materials and downloadable paper-based materials, although these are available free of charge to UCL staff and students anyway.

How to pay

When you attend the orientation you should bring your payment with you or arrange an electronic IDT. We will accept

  • a personal cheque made payable to University College London
  • an electronic IDT (eIDT) sent to Claire Nalty or Harminder Singh, Information Services Division (stating 'ECDL for' and the name of the candidate)

Please ensure that 'ECDL' and the name of the candidate are written on the back of the cheque or in the Description of the eIDT.

Orientation sessions

At the orientation you will be given more detailed information about the ECDL programme at UCL and provided with a copy of the ECDL syllabus. You will be shown the learning materials which are available for use and the automated testing software we use for testing sessions. During the orientation, you will also have an opportunity to discuss your individual learning and training needs. Orientation sessions usually last about 45 minutes to an hour.

To attend an orientation session, please visit the UCL Training Booking System and book a suitable date.  You must bring payment with you to the session.  While you are waiting to attend an orientation session, you can start studying straight away.  See information for Current candidates for more details.

Please email is-courses@ucl.ac.uk if you have any further queries.
