Server Connections
The following switches are the standard Recommended Option for Server Connections:
Small Server rooms / Per cabinet deployment
WS-C3560E-24TD-S
This high performance switch provides 24 1Gb ports and 10Gb uplink port.
The uplink port can also run at 1Gb, which is useful for maximizing investment through futureproofing in areas where 10Gb is not yet available. However, it does not have the high speed stacking option of the 3750 and this is reflected in the price. This is the switch in use in at one of the main ISD data centres; we use multiple dedicated 10G uplinks per switch so no stacking is needed.
Large server rooms
WS-C3750E-24TD-S / WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U
Where all servers are cabled back to the same location, the 3750 series of switches can be stacked together to allow inter-switch traffic at backplane speeds (32-64Gb).Typically we would use 1 switch with a 10G uplinks (3750E), and then 3750G switches for the rest, up to a maximum of 4 in a stack.
