The following switches are the standard Recommended Option for Client Connections:
Standard Recommended Option:
This switch has 24 100Mb ports and 1Gb uplink. If you do not have any specialist requirements, this is the switch you should use.
High Performance Option:
This very high performance switch has 24 1Gb ports and 10Gb uplink. Where large, time critical data transfers occur from client machines (e.g. remote modelling or visualization) this is the recommended option. Please note 10Gb not available in all locations.
Alternative option to keep users happy (but not really recommended)
24 1Gb ports and 1Gb uplink. This switch breaks the 10:1 contention ratio that we aim for, since every single connection is the same speed as the uplink, so a single user could conceivably use all the available bandwidth (although the switch will try to ensure this doesn’t happen). However, users will see they have a 1Gb connection, although they may never able to reach those speeds. This switch also has slightly higher stacking costs (details in additional costs section)
