How to forward your Live@UCL email

Please note: You are strongly advised to read and send email from your Live@UCL account rather than forward messages on to external addresses such as Gmail or Yahoo. Important college emails are sent via your Live@UCL account and we cannot support or ensure receipt of an email once it has been forwarded.
  • In Outlook Web Access (OWA), click on Options in the top right hand side of the screen.
  • Select Organise E-Mail > Inbox Rules (tab) > and click on the New button

  • In the New Inbox Rule window, click on the down arrow next to When the message arrives, and:
  • Select [Apply to all messages]

  • Click on the down arrow next to Do the following:
  • Select Redirect the message to...

Please note:

If in the drop down list you see the option 'Forward the message to...' (not everyone will see this), do not select this option. Redirecting and forwarding are not the same:

  • Messages that are redirected will appear to come from the original sender. When you reply to a message that's been redirected, the reply will be sent to the original sender.
  • Messages that are forwarded will appear to be forwarded from you. When you reply to a message that's been forwarded, the reply will be sent to the address that the message was forwarded from, not to the original sender.
Redirect option
  • In the Address Book - Webpage dialog box, right at the very bottom of that window, under Message recipients, type in the address that you want to forward your Live@UCL mail to.
  • Click OK

Optional action:

By default, a copy of messages that you redirect or forward will remain in your Inbox. This means that your mailbox may reach the storage limit. If it does, new messages will be blocked and returned to the original sender; they won't be redirected or forwarded to your other account. To continue receiving new messages, you'll have to sign in to your mailbox and delete some messages.

You can choose to forward the message and delete it instead from your OWA inbox. To do this:

  • In the New Inbox Rule box, click on the More Options button.

  • Click on Add Action.

  • Next to Select one, click on the down arrow and click on Move, copy or delete, then Delete the message.

  • Click Save.
  • Back at the New Inbox Rule box, click on the Save button.

Your Live@UCL email will now be redirected to your alternate email address.
